Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program
AVID is a college preparation program that targets students in the academic middle. These students have the potential to succeed in rigorous course work, graduate from high school, and go on to college if they given the proper support, motivation, and instruction.
Program Requirements AVID targets students who are in the "academic middle." Students must meet the requirements of the program in order to participate. Each student goes though an application and interview process.
A. Students must demonstrate academic potential by having a grade point average of 2.0 - 3.5. Student must have average to high test score and have passed, or are close to passing, the math and reading BST tests.
B. Students must meet at least one of the following four criteria: 1. from a low-income family 2. member of a group traditionally underrrepresented in 4-year colleges 3. first generation in family to attend college 4. special circumstances (i.e. teen parent)
C. Students must have a destire to attend college and the motivation to work hard for it.
