Microsoft DigiGirlz (4-21-09)
On Tuesday, April 22, nine girls from Arlington BioSMART High School attended a day long workshop at the Minneapolis headquarters of Microsoft.

DigiGirlz, as it was named, was a mixture of technical career exploration, a glimpse of the new products coming out of the Microsoft research and development division, and insight into the marketing, selling, and support of Microsoft software.

The girls heard life stories from women of all ages who have careers in a technical field ranging from one who supports the technical division of all Wells Fargo Banks as well as an intern who is in the process of rotating among the many technical departments of Target in order to discover her passion.  They also met and were able to ask question of a Macalester College Computer Science professor and the President of the Minnesota High Tech Association.

Among the new products demonstrations the girls saw were an application that can ‘automagically’, (Microsoft word for effortlessly, instantaneously, and wirelessly), transfer a picture that you take with your phone onto your laptop within seconds and Microsoft 7 which will be the new and improved replacement for Vista.

Our girls learned that technology is intertwined with every imaginable field and will continue to grow in importance with every passing year. A great day was had by all!
(Our apologies as no pictures were captured for this event.)
