Our commitment to our students is to make sure that they are equipped with the knowledge they need to function as literate citizens in the community.
In addition to the courses listed on the right, we have an extensive committment to ensuring that our 9th and 10th graders pass their Basic Standard/Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment in Reading and Writing.
We have two full-time reading coaches and one half-time | | poem by Emily Dickinson | writing coach working with small groups and individual students, as well as an ongoing relationship with Marsha Besch, Writing Consultant from the Minnesota Writing Project and and adjunct instructor at Hamline University in St. Paul.
If students do not pass the required tests, they are then given additional help from our Title I (Federal) teachers, who visit students in their various classrooms throughout the building.

| Poetry Fest! | On May 2nd, 2007 in the Great Hall, The English Department hosted our first annual Poetry Fest, designed to celebrate our love of verse and performance.
At 2:15 we began our Learning Walk through a garden of poems, poets, research, art and history. At 3:15, we hosted a SLAM for young people who shared their original rhymes and verse with the world.
Our first ever Poetry Fest included fabulous prizes, guest judges and a festive, celebratory atmosphere.
